Is it safe to travel to Uganda and East Africa?
Uganda is one of the safest destinations in East Africa for tourists. The areas where safaris take place — Bwindi, Queen Elizabeth National Park, Kibale, Murchison Falls — are well-managed, well-patrolled, and visited by thousands of international travelers every year. Our guides are experienced, our routes are established, and your safety is our first priority at every step. We are happy to answer any specific concerns you have before you book.
How far in advance should I book a gorilla trekking permit?
We recommend booking at least 3 to 6 months in advance, especially for peak season travel (June to September and December to February). Gorilla trekking permits in Uganda are limited to 8 people per gorilla family per day, and they sell out fast. The earlier you book, the more choice you have in dates, sectors, and gorilla families. We handle all permit booking on your behalf.
What does a safari from North America typically cost?
Safari costs vary depending on the length of your trip, the countries you visit, your accommodation preference, and the activities included. As a general guide, a 5 to 7 day Uganda safari including a gorilla trekking permit typically starts from around $2,500 to $4,000 per person. The gorilla permit alone is $800 USD in Uganda (compared to $1,500 in Rwanda). We always provide a fully itemized quote so you know exactly what is included and excluded. Contact us and we will design an itinerary that fits your budget honestly.
Can I combine multiple countries in one trip?
Absolutely. Many of our travelers combine Uganda with Rwanda, Kenya, or Tanzania in a single itinerary. For example, you could track gorillas in Bwindi, then cross into Rwanda for Volcanoes National Park, or combine Uganda with a Kenyan wildlife safari. We design cross-border itineraries regularly and handle all the logistics across every country.
What vaccinations or health precautions do I need?
We always recommend consulting your doctor or a travel health clinic before your trip, as requirements vary by nationality and personal health. Common recommendations for East Africa include Yellow Fever vaccination (required for entry into Uganda), Hepatitis A and B, Typhoid, and malaria prophylaxis. A full health preparation guide is available on our Health and Safety page. We also partner with medical professionals who travel to Uganda annually and can provide additional guidance.
Do you offer travel insurance guidance?
We strongly recommend purchasing comprehensive travel insurance before your trip — including medical evacuation coverage, trip cancellation, and safari-specific coverage. While we do not sell insurance directly, we can point you toward reputable providers used by East Africa travelers. Safari trips involve advance permit payments and non-refundable bookings, so travel insurance is not optional — it is essential.
