Health & Safety Guide

Where every journey becomes a gateway to discovery.

For East Africa Travelers

Vaccinations

  • Yellow Fever: Highly recommended and often required for entry into East Africa. Always carry your vaccination card.
  • Routine: Ensure you are up to date on routine vaccinations (e.g., Tetanus, Hepatitis).
  • Consult a travel doctor 4-6 weeks before departure for the latest medical advice.

Malaria Prevention Malaria is present in many parts of East Africa.

  • Consult a doctor about antimalarial medication.
  • Use insect repellent with DEET.
  • Sleep under mosquito nets provided at lodges.

Food & Water

  • Drink only bottled or filtered water.
  • Eat fresh food only at reputable lodges and restaurants recommended by your guide.

Fitness for Trekking Activities like Gorilla Trekking or Mountain Climbing are physically demanding. You must be comfortable hiking for several hours on uneven, steep, or muddy terrain.

  • Check the “Activity Level” on your package page to ensure the trip matches your fitness level.

For Canada Travelers

Weather Preparedness

  • Summer: Heat and humidity can be high in Ottawa. Carry water and wear sunscreen.
  • Winter: Temperatures can drop significantly below freezing. Frostbite is a risk. If joining a winter tour, you must have a heavy parka, insulated boots, gloves, and a hat.

Urban Safety Ottawa is a very safe city. However, standard precautions apply:

  • Watch for traffic when crossing streets.
  • In winter, watch for icy sidewalks which can be slippery.
  • Secure your valuables in crowded tourist areas.

Accessibility Most Canadian national sites (Parliament, Museums) are fully accessible. Natural sites (parks, waterfalls) may have uneven terrain.
