Is Uganda safe to visit in 2026? An honest answer

It is the first question many Canadians ask, and it deserves a straight answer rather than a brochure one. Most of Uganda that travellers visit, the gorilla forests of the southwest, the national parks, the source of the Nile at Jinja, is calm, welcoming, and used to international visitors. As with any trip, you check your government travel advice before you book, you travel with an operator who knows the ground, and you keep to the regions that are set up for tourism.

What surprises most first-time visitors is the warmth. A stranger greets you with both hands. People will go out of their way to help you find your road. The thing you remember on the flight home is rarely the thing you worried about before you left.
