The people

The youngest country on Earth still crowns kings.

More than sixty peoples, more than Europe has countries, each with its own welcome.

Kings, still crowned

Among them, the world’s youngest.

Half of Uganda is younger than eighteen. Yet it keeps its kingdoms. In Tooro, King Oyo took the throne in 1995 as a three-year-old. Next door in Busoga the king is elected, chosen by his own chiefs. The country’s name comes from Buganda, the kingdom of the Kabaka.

Among them, the world's youngest.
Greeted by name

A kindness built into the language.

In the west of Uganda people carry praise-names, used the moment they greet you. The drums call and the raffia answers, and every region keeps its own dance.

A kindness built into the language.
